Vacations (the real kind)

Josh and I have been fortunate this summer to go on not one, but two fabulous vacations this summer. The first was a big trip with my family to Florida and Disney World. My sister, brother, brother-in-law, mom, dad, and, of course, Josh and I all stayed in a great 3 bedroom suite in Kissimee. Going to Disney with 7 adults can be trickier than going with kids I think, but we all had a good time. While we were there, we also went and visited Cape Canaveral and took an airboat ride. Cape Canaveral isn’t really my cup of tea but it did make me feel very patriotic and I’m glad I got to see it.

The airboat ride was…interesting. We pulled up to a shack off the highway in the middle of nowhere to “check-in”. It looked like something straight out of “Gator Boys”. Unfortunately, because of the time of year and large amounts of rainfall this summer, the only alligator we saw was the one in their “exhibit” – aka one sad alligator at the bottom of a concrete tank. At least it wasn’t hot that day and it was definitely a nice break from the busyness of our Disney days.

On the airboat ride. The little boy next to Josh loved him! He kept holding one hand on his mom and one hand on Josh’s leg 🙂 Adorbs.

Silly boys…

Our second vacation was a 4 day trip to Ocracoke, an island off the Outer Banks that is 90% state park and 10% small village. Steve and Karen rent a house there every year for their family vacation and this year they invited our whole small group up to stay with them. We were in a huge house right on the sound and it was such a refreshing trip. There isn’t much on Ocracoke which makes it a great get away. Josh and I loved hanging on the beach and being able to ride a bike down to dinner or to some little shops.

It was also really nice to spend so much time with our closest friends. We laughed a lot, puzzled a lot, and ate A LOT but it was a perfect way to close out summer! I go back to work next week sadly, but I’ll be sure to upload pictures of my classroom (I know you’re all dying to see it! :-p)
