Stay-cation

Normally, I hate that word – stay-cation. Mostly because I understand the word vacation to mean “getting away from normal life”. I still stand by my definition but over the holiday weekend Josh and I had a stay-cation of sorts and it was actually kind of nice.  I think it started Wednesday night when we helped out the Shivers small group serving hot dogs at the Boys and Girls club. Afterward, we all ended up at the Ebelings’ house just hanging out and catching up because, well we missed them while they were away! Josh also helped Jason set up his e-mail or something that took forever (so it seemed to me) but it was nice because Thursday was the Fourth and we slept in the latest I think we have in our entire marriage so far … 10am! When we got up, Josh had to get some studying out the way for the CPA exam so I went out in search of something super patriotic to wear. I don’t know why, but every year on the Fourth of July I want something so patriotic it’s almost corny to wear yet wouldn’t be caught dead in the same thing on the fifth of July. Anyway, I ended up getting us each a shirt from Old Navy. Josh was not with me, as I mentioned so I got to choose his shirt. I picked out a flag tank top because I like seeing all his muscles, though he says he feels like a dork. Apparently, all the compliments I was giving him was enough to make him ok with wearing it (I’m going to secretly pack it in our suitcases for vacation…shhh!)

See, doesn't he look hot? :)

See, doesn’t he look hot? 🙂

We went over to my parents house after lunch because our small group has a tradition of going out to their house to cook out and shoot off some fireworks. We had some great burgers and corn on the cob. And everyone went home with a bajillion mosquito bites and all their fingers.

Friday was kind of a lazy day, though we did attempt to play some frisbee golf in the afternoon. The fact that it was a tough course, we had only two frisbees, and it was a 100 degrees out limited us to only 8 holes.  (That and Josh fell into a muddy creek attempting to fish out his frisbee. I didn’t laugh, I swear) We might try again in the fall when it’s cooler! That night we had Asa and Karissa over (Steve and Karen’s girls) so that they could go out to Charlotte and celebrate their 10 year wedding anniversary. We ate pizza and watched movies. I’d never seen Phineas and Ferb before and it was actually quite funny for a kids cartoon.

Saturday, we took the girls down to the pool for a few hours before handing them back off to their parents later that afternoon. I don’t know if you know this, but kids (even older, well behaved kids) are exhausting! It was fun but I guess I better sleep now in preparation for parenthood! Today we went to church and are just  bumming around, making good use of Josh’s last day of vacation.  Not bad for 4 days off but I’m looking forward to “real” vacation in just two weeks!
