“I have this friend, who has a clumsy wife…”

As we were leaving Friday’s session, Brad noticed what looked like a ski slope on the nearby mountain. We saw people going down it, it was lit like a ski slope, but there was white up there. It didn’t seem to make sense as it was 70 degrees out but we figured we might as well and go check it out. Sure enough, it was a ski slope! It’s called snowflex which is similar to astroturf on top of some really thick foam that they spray water over to make it slide almost just like real snow. I begged everyone to try (or at least to put up with me wanting to) and Josh, good sport that he is, put into practice the “have fun with your spouse even if it means falling on your butt and getting rug burn” sentiment that was mentioned in the session. It wasn’t quite like snow because when you fell you worried about seriously rug burning your face but I had a blast and so grateful for friends willing to try, or at least spectate, anything!

Saturday morning we all got up and went to chik-fil-a for breakfast before heading back for the last session. On Saturday Mark talked about how sex can be viewed as god, gross, or a gift. Society tends to view it as a god, often the church views it as gross (he used a story of a couple he counseled who had been married a year…and both were still virgins) but we ought to view it as a gift. Along those lines he talked about selfish lovers and servant lovers which had very little do with sex and a whole lot of how to serve your spouse and to let yourself be served by your spouse.

I love that focus face 🙂

Saturday Morning at the conference

Afterward, we went to a nearby pizza place for lunch and went back to the hotel for a nap. What else is vacation for anyway? We went down to the pool a little later and had a lot of fun hanging out and talking. The jacuzzi the previous day had been lukewarm at best but this time it was HOT. Something you may not know about Rachel is that she has very beautiful but sensitive skin. When she got out she looked like a lobster! There was a clear line of red and white where she had been in the water. Poor Rachel 😦

That night for supper we went out to “The Neighbor’s Place” it was a little bit fancy but really tasty food. A group of high schoolers on their way to prom were at the table next to us and Josh and I had fun trying to figure out how their social dynamics worked. Maybe we’re just nerds because we do that all the time (Disney is going to be AWESOME).

Dinner at “The Neighbor’s Place”

After supper we went back to the hotel and watched a movie on TV. It made us feel old but it was extremely relaxing too. Sunday morning we got up in time to check out a place called Brentwood Church. It was really great to be a guest someplace! We got the special VIP parking and everything! It was really similar to Discovery and we felt right at home. The pastor even preached on marriage! After that we headed home to be back in time for the Lord’s supper at church. It was a refreshing weekend away after a long tax season and I’m so grateful for the friends we got to share it with!
