First Anniversary

This past weekend Josh and I celebrated our one year anniversary, woohoo! Unfortunately we couldn’t get away for an overnight trip due the date being sandwiched between mandatory graduation on Friday night (for Jess) and Father’s Day celebrations on Sunday. We did manage to have a ton of fun though!

On Friday, Josh only had to work half day (I love that about his job!) so we planned to have lunch together when he got home around 1. Now I don’t know if you know this about girls or not but as a general rule, we look forward to our wedding day. A LOT. And about the one year mark, I at least, was reminiscing and wishing I could relive the wedding at least one more time. So what do I do? Watch too much “Say Yes to the Dress” and drive 20 minutes to my parents house to rescue my wedding dress from their guest room closet. I drove back to our house and planned to put everything on (down to underwear and shoes) and then get out of it by the time Josh got home. Well, Josh got home about a half an hour early! I was caught red-handed and slightly red faced. Luckily my sweet husband just laughed and took some pictures.

On our way back, Josh whips into this little side of the road farm stand to get some fresh veggies. I’m still getting used to my new “I like to eat healthy” husband. Next, Josh suggested we go hit a bucket of balls at the driving range. I had so much fun, especially since it was a gorgeous day. It sort of felt like a mini vacation ๐Ÿ™‚

20130614_145309I had to leave for graduation so unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to have dinner together but when I got home we exchanged our “paper” anniversary gifts and ate some of our cake. ย We also watched our wedding video – which I, of course, LOVED. I’m so thankful for a brother and brother-in-law who were able to record parts of our day. It totally fulfilled all my mushy gushy “remember when” needs ๐Ÿ™‚

We got each other the same card! Because we’re that adorable ๐Ÿ™‚

We met up with Brad and Rachel for some coffee afterwards and went to bed. On Saturday (our actual anniversary) I had to get up early to go to a staff wives meeting. When I got back Josh had us all packed up and ready for a trip to the Outer Banks! Weย first stopped at the Starbucks where we had our first date for some caffeination. On the drive, I played a quiz with Josh where I had put together a bunch of songs and made him guess which memories from our relationship – I think he got all but one ๐Ÿ™‚ On the way we stopped at a rest stop and saw a sign for this local Winery/Coffee place. We dashed across 4 lanes of traffic to check it out before continuing on to the beach.

We ended up having lunch at a deli in Kill Devil Hills, it was super yummy and it was another gorgeous day so Josh even consented to eat outside! I still can’t get over that I live in a place that has more nice weather days than not (except for hurricanes but whatevs…)

After lunch, we drove out to a little village called Duck. We walked around through lots of little shops. We checked out a small bookshop and a place with lots of beachy souvenirs and a surf shop. We stopped and got some ice cream and ate it on this dock overlooking the sound.

P1020861We drove all the way out to Corolla next which is a small town all the way on the northernmost part of the Outer Banks. We went out to the Whalehead Yacht Club where Josh was originally planning to propose (until I ruined it by insisting on going to the Elizabethan Gardens). We took an audio tour of the house and took some pictures on the bridge that Tyler had scouted for the proposal (over 2 years ago!)

On the bridge I was “supposed” to be proposed to on!

Our last two stops on the way home were an open house (for the beach house we’re going to buy…ha!) and the Outback for supper where we ate supper the day we got engaged. We had a wonderful anniversary weekend, I’m so thankful for time to celebrate with my wonderful husband! ๐Ÿ™‚
